"Special" Cage
With this photo, I wanted to create a visual representation of what the education system can be like for some. Even though it’s supposed to help those who struggle, all it did for me was isolate me from my peers and hold me back in subjects where I wasn’t struggling. After I caught up in reading, I was already too far behind to join the Normal class in all the other subjects.
Throughout high school, they had me thinking about what I wanted to do in college. But when my final year came around, and I asked about college, I was told I would have to redo grades 9 through 12 to qualify. They never planned for me to pursue post-secondary education. The system was designed to keep me out of the teachers' way so they could focus on teaching the "Normal" students.
